#35 Peter Harpline

Our most interesting guest today is the fabulous Peter “Harp” or “Harpline.” We had the best discussion with him over the sensitive subjects of life, pain and death.
Peter shared many of his insights and some of his reasons for not always asking questions.  He said, if you go to the edge of the universe you will find…another universe.  So, in that sense it seems to make no sense to try to figure some things out.   However, Peter still had plenty to say that gave us a glimpse into the depth of his thoughts on these subjects, and his song “Stay by the Fire,” gave us plenty of fuel for discussion!  We know you will enjoy our visit with this delightful man and his wonderful music!

Lead Scripture:
Proverbs 19:27
“27 Cease listening, my son, to hear instruction,
And you will stray from the words of knowledge.”  (KJV)
The Word of God is like a fire of life for us!  If we stop listening then we will stray and go down the wrong path.  Stay by the fire!

LYRICS
STAY BY THE FIRE

Stay by the Fire
Take good care today
Find your desire
She used to say

Sleep and the night will cover you
Stars will show the way
But stay by the fire
She used to say

Its four and twenty years
Inside I hide my tears
Why does sorry have to be this way
Midnights don’t both me
In fire light I see
The start of another brand new day

I know it’s got to be
It’s right in front of me
I face the light don’t hide away
Please stay by the fire
Please stay by the fire
Please stay, just one more day

Scriptures from Interview
Jeremiah 20:9
“9 But if I say, “I will not remember Him Or speak anymore in His name,” Then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; And I am weary of holding it in, And I cannot endure it..” (NASB)
Jeremiah was speaking of God.  He was telling of how he was compelled to speak the words God gave him or it burned inside of him.

Hebrews 3:12
“12 Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end, 15 while it is said, “Today if you hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts, as when they provoked Me.”(NASB)
When God talks to us, calls us, we need to listen and respond to him.  Not because someone is trying to convince us.  We know in our hearts when God talks to us, and when he does we should not turn away but instead to turn him.

Ecclesiastes 11:7
“15 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing for eyes to see the sun.” (KJV)
We prefer to walk in the light and not have to face the darkness.

Psalm 139:12
“12 Even the darkness is not dark to You, and the night is as bright as the day.  Darkness and light are alike to You.” (KJV)
God can see as well in the dark as he does in the light.  Nothing is hidden from God.

Daniel 10:6
“6b …his face had the appearance of lightning, his eyes were like lamps of fire...”
This scripture speaks of an appearance of Jesus.  The fire of life in his eyes!  Life-giving and all-consuming fire!

Hebrews 12:19
“19 For our God is a consuming fire.”

Exodus 3:2
King James Version (KJV)
2 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

Exodus 40:38
For the cloud of the Lord was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.
God is saying stay by my side through this journey and I will protect you.

Matthew 6:21-23
“21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore your eye is single, your whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if your eye is evil, then your whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”
In the bigger context, if your eye is single means you are generous of heart and also looking to God and trust him.  You trust God to store your treasures in heaven and then God fills you with his light.  We store our treasures up in heaven by realizing that what we have on this earth is not what we own, but what God has loaned us.  He has loaned us what we have so we can bless others.  When we help others then we store our treasures up in heaven, and our eye is single.  We have one purpose, to love God and help and bless others.  … But if we are more concerned with our life here and are greedy and not helping others then that makes the eye evil and the light in us dark….and how great is that darkness…and it also makes us divided inside and a house divided against itself cannot stand.
